A League By Kapil Dev

When the Britishers left India after Independence one of the biggest and most popular legacies they left behind was the game of cricket. If anything the popularity of the game has grown over the ages and generations after generations have been enjoying the game of cricket. The game is not only popular in the cities and towns but also in the rural areas . In fact many of the best cricketers come from the rural hinterlands of our vast Country.
The format of the game has also been undergoing transformation with the changing times. In the days gone by when people had time to spare test matches which would extend for days together were popular. The test matches had its own league of popular players like the Nawab of Patudi or Gavaskar. With the changing times people did not have that much time to spare. So came the one day matches with fifty overs on each side. The one day matches continue to be played for the ICC World Cup.
However , the demand for intensifying the pace of the game did not stop with the one day matches. With a view to increase sponsorship and attract more spectators the Twenty20 matches were introduced in the year 2003. The popularity of the ICC Twenty20  World Cup is now the most eagerly awaited event.
Kapil Dev is a legendary figure as far as the game of cricket goes. He was a naturally aggressive player whose in -swing Yorkers have not been forgotten till today. The high point of the Indian cricket team was winning the World Cup in the year 2003 under his captainship. Although he took retirement in the year 1994 he has continued to be closely associated with the game of cricket till today. He was the coach of the Indian Cricket team for a considerable duration.
Kapil Dev has always been a  man  full of surprises. No doubt his declaration of introducing a New League would be a format least expected by others. But his being sanguine that any one playing against with their heart in the game  has no chance of winning itself goes to establish that  the league would have high level of players.
The playes in Kapil Dev’s Nai League is anybody’s guess. The teams could either comprise of Indians only or alternately could have the choicest players from around the globe.
When Kapil Dev goes on to say that if the opponents play with their heart they are bound to lose could also convey the fact that the only way of defeating the opponent in the league to be introduced by him would be to use the head more than the heart. In other words the league would need to be played on the basis of a well thought out strategy.
At this stage one can only venture to guess the concept behind Kapil Dev’Nai League and eagerly await announcement of the Nai League by the legend.
